TouchTunes Acquires Vancouver-Based Music Direction
NEW YORK CITY — TouchTunes said it has acquired Vancouver-based Music Direction, a provider of background music services to retail, restaurant and hospitality clients. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“The acquisition of Music Direction is an exciting opportunity for TouchTunes as we continue to expand our portfolio of products and services, and bring new opportunities to our business partners,” said TouchTunes chairman and chief executive Charles Goldstuck. TouchTunes administers the largest jukebox network in North America, where it has an installed base of 65,000 units.
Goldstuck announced that Music Direction founder Noel Steen will retain his role as creative director for the company, which will continue to operate as it had prior to the acquisition. “He is one of the most talented, creative executives in the industry, and will be an incredible addition to our team,” Goldstuck said.
Music Direction’s delivery platform is licensed in Canada and the U.S. The service creates music profiles, or branded music programs, for its clients and schedules playlists based on a location’s profile. Content is preloaded onto Music Direction’s portable player, which is shipped to the client (music does not stream). The player remains on location, where it connects to the sound system and Internet; its playlists can be updated monthly.
“I’m excited to join forces with TouchTunes and continue on Music Direction’s growth path with TouchTunes’ support,” Steen said.
