Executive Team

Steve Shaffer

Chief Executive Officer

After college and a brief stint in the US Air Force, Steve entered the family business in 1964 as an inside sales assistant to longtime employee and mentor, Bernie Flynn. Within a couple of years he was assigned the outside territories of West Virginia, Kentucky and Southern Ohio for music and game sales. Soon after, Shaffer Distributing Company parted with the Seeburg Corporation and united with Rowe International, at which time Steve became the Corporate Sales VP of full line vending. In just three years, Shaffer Distributing Company became the largest distributor of full line vending equipment in the United States, receiving many awards for its achievement.

In 1974 Steve became a Vice President and branch manager of the Columbus, Ohio corporate office assuming the responsibilities of hiring a new management team and sales force of which some are still here today. In 1981, Steve's father Ed, owner and CEO of the Company passed away suddenly and the responsibility of running the company was left solely to Steve and the new management team recently put in place. In 1988, Steve felt a need for the Company to enter into the music and game operating business in a effort to better understand all facets of the industry. In doing so, a new Company was founded called Shaffer Services Inc., and today is recognized as one of the finest operating companies in the United States.

Steve is on the board of the Ohio Wholesalers Association and has served on various industry boards throughout his forty-four years in the industry.


 

Bill Kraft

President

Bill Kraft joined Shaffer Distributing Company on February 1, 1975. Prior to being named Vice President of Sales and Marketing in 1981, Bill sold a full line of food and beverage equipment as well as amusement and music products. In April 1999, Bill became President of the Shaffer Distributing Company. He is currently responsible for market share expansion of all Shaffer products and services.

Bill has served on the board of directors of the Amusement and Music Operators Association and the Ohio Automatic Merchandising Association. He is also on the board of directors of the Central Ohio Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Upper Arlington Rotary and First Community Church.

Bill is a graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio with a Bachelor’s Degree in General Business and a Master Degree in Business Administration


 

Paul Westbrock

Executive Vice President

Paul Westbrock is Executive Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer for Shaffer Distributing Company and its affiliate Shaffer Services, Inc. Paul also serves on the Board of Directors for both Shaffer Companies. He joined Shaffer Distributing in 1980 as Controller and was elected to his current position in 1981. He is responsible for all financial and administrative functions as well as liaison with corporate legal counsel. During his tenure, the Shaffer Companies have successfully undertaken six acquisitions.

Previously, Paul was Controller for a national restaurant chain. He holds Bachelor's Degrees in both Accounting and Business Administration.


 

Scott Shaffer

Vice President of Sales and Marketing

Scott Shaffer is Vice President of Marketing and Sales and has been with the company full time since 1993. He is responsible for overseeing all sales efforts of the organization and coordinating the salespeople and their duties. He has been actively involved in sales throughout the Midwest and has focused particular attention to exploring new opportunities in our industry.

As a fourth generation member of the family, Scott has grown up in the business and been involved with almost all aspects of the business at some point in his career. He graduated from Miami University in 1993 with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations and Marketing.


 

Chuck Ropke

Vice President of Operations

After receiving a Technical Education in Electronics, Chuck started his career as a service technician with Ace Vending Company in Columbus, Ohio, whose parent company was the AAV Companies headquartered in Solon, Ohio. In 1989, Ace Vending's amusement and cigarette routes were purchased by the Shaffer family, the last of three local amusement route acquisitions which later became Shaffer Services, Inc., an affiliate of the Shaffer Distributing Company.

During his tenure at Shaffer Services, Chuck supervised in-house repair and equipment refurbishment, as well as managing the parts department. In November of 1997, Chuck joined the distribution side of the business as Service Manager and later Director of Corporate Services to manage the expansion of the service departments due to the subsequent acquisition of J&J Distributing in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1999, Chuck took on the additional responsibilities for managing parts sales and was promoted to VP Corporate Services in 2001.

Today, Chuck manages day-to-day operations including service, parts, logistics and facilities management for the company's five offices located throughout the Midwest.


 

Sales Team

Tim Dwyer

Branch Manager/Sales Representative

Tim Dwyer is the Branch Manager for the Indianapolis, Indiana location. His duties include overseeing Music, Gaming and Vending Sales as well as the Shaffer Entertainment Route Division. Tim joined Shaffer in January 2005 as a Music and Gaming Salesman. Prior to Shaffer, Tim held similar positions with other distributing companies like Atlas Distributing, Cleveland Coin and Modern Vending.

 

 

Rich Grant

Branch Manager/Sales Representative

While still in High School, Rich entered the coin machine industry in 1974 when he was hired by a local operator as a pinball technician. To this day he still enjoys collecting and restoring pinball machines. In 1979 Rich left the industry for a short time and received his associate’s degree in business administration.

In 1986 Rich started a new distributing office for Sunshine Distributing and was the Branch and Sales Manager until 1992.

He then joined the sales team at Warehouse of Games in 1993 and also helped create a home sales division which he successfully managed until 2000.

After a few months off Rich joined the Shaffer sales team in the spring of 2001. He has been with the St. Louis office for 13 years now. Rich has a strong technological background and has attended several service schools throughout his 30 year career and has hosted even more schools for his customers to keep them informed and updated with the latest technology.


 

Dennis Sterns

Sales Representative

Dennis began his sales career in coin-op in 1977 working for M & M Distributing in St. Louis after graduation from the University of Missouri. After relocating to Colorado he took a sales position with Mountain Coin Machine Distributing in 1981. Bally Midwest Distributing then hired him to return to St. Louis at their newly opened branch and eventually, he became Branch Manager. In 1988 J & J Distributors opened a branch office in St. Louis and hired Dennis to head up their game and music sales. He became part of the current sales team when J & J was purchased by Shaffer Distributing in 1998.


 

Byron Howard

Branch Manager/Sales Representative

A graduate from Eastern Michigan University with a major in Business Management and History, Byron will begin his 33rd year in the industry early next year. He began working for amusement and cigarette vending operator Fontana Brothers in Detroit in 1980 where he worked filling machines, collection, service and equipment moves. It was supposed to be a summer job only. Moved into supervisory position and as the company transitioned into full line vending a short time later and took over as Division Manager. Stayed on the operations side of the business until company was sold in 1992.

Soon after that transition, he was hired as a sales rep with local Michigan equipment distributor Cleveland Coin Machine Exchange selling music and vending machines and took over as Branch Manager 3 months later. In 2005, CCME was sold to Shaffer Distributing where he continues as Branch Manager and Sales Consultant today.

Currently on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Coin Machine Operators Association and a member of the MDVA.


 

Matt Ottey

Branch Manager/Sales Representative

Matt began his career in the coin-op industry in 1978 working for a local operator in Cleveland. He installed equipment in the multiple locations, collected the machines as well serviced them. The particular owner of the company purchased the majority of his equipment the Shaffer Distributing Company had in the then Macedonia facility in which he would pick up equipment and parts on a frequent basis allowing him to build a relationship with the management and the employee's.

On November 14th 1984 he was asked by the manager at Shaffer Distributing to join the Shaffer team as a Truck Driver, and he happily accepted. After 12 years of the driver position he moved on to the Logistics Manager, followed by a Full Line Vending Sales position. In 1997 Chuck Ropke came aboard the Distributing entity and together what was known as the "Flat Rate" Department. Matt held the position for a few year when again, he was asked to move into the Corporate Parts Sales position as Shaffer decided to get competitive in the Parts Arena. Currently, Matt works in the Amusement Sales position coupled with the Corporate Parts Sales and Branch Manager of the Valley View (Cleveland) Office.

Equipment Sales territory: Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Northern Ohio.


 

Bob Muniak

Sales Representative

Bob Muniak attended Heidelberg University and graduated in 1987 with degree in Business Administration. He has actively been working in the Entertainment and Distributing Industry for over 25 years. He was previously employed by Cleveland Coin for 12 years and is working towards his 13 anniversary with Shaffer Distributing Company in Valley View, Ohio. He and his wife Tracey are happily married for over 21 years and three children, Robby, Ryan and Emma. He currently serves the Mid –West region as a Shaffer Distributing Equipment Sales Representative.


 

Paul Jones

Sales Representative

Paul’s career with Shaffer began in 2001. Starting his career in the warehouse and delivery department, he soon moved into parts service sales, gaining valuable industry experience. In 2010, Paul joined the amusement sales team; his knowledge of the coin-op industry from the ground up makes him a very valuable asset to Shaffer Distributing.

Prior to Shaffer, Paul served in U.S. Army, receiving the Army Commendation Medal and being honorably discharged after 4 years of service achieving the rank of Sergeant. After the Army, Paul studied music and technical communications Kent State University. Paul is an accomplished singer song writer in the music industry with many accolades in the Hard Rock and Metal genres of the music industry.

Paul serves the Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia market.


 

George Speakman

Sales Representative

George Speakman is a Sales Representative for Shaffer Distributing. George has a great deal of management and sales experience from his tenure as a Regional Manager at Enterprise Rent-a-Car for the past 10 years. He is responsible for business growth within the FEC industry. He partners with all Shaffer Distributing Sales Representatives in each of the assigned territories with the goal of growing market share throughout the Midwest and beyond. He graduated from Capital University in 2003 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Human Resource Management.
